for reference to the PRD which is what we actually use as the standard, here is the link: paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateMagic/spellcastingClassOptions/witch.htmlas far as the familiar doing all the fighting, that's not a particularly good strategy given that your familiar is very weak in terms of strength. they function as the animals listed in the witch familiar list, and aboutthe most you'll ever get health wise is 8 hp. they do not level up like you do, though they get bonuses based off your level. they never increase health without some outside thing affecting it, be it a feat, magic item, etc. also, pease look into the fact that if your familiar dies, is dismissed, or otherwise separated from you,you effectively lose all spellcasting ability. you cannot prepare your spells without your familiar present, just like a wizard needs their spellbook. and the hassle of getting it back is listed here: "If a familiar is lost or dies, it can be replaced 1 day later through a special ritual that costs 500 gp per witch level. The ritual takes 8 hours to complete." so effectively 2 days, because after 24 hours you have to spend another 8 hours performing a ritual, putting the time of day somewhere in early evening, and at higher levels it would cost more and more each time your pet dies. the best way to look at a familiar is as a constant boon that so long as you protect it, allows you to keep fighting. they are not meant to be battle pets. If you want something that you control and send into battle, i recommend looking at summoner.

100% agreement with Ding - familiars are not combat pets. This is a bad idea. The witch suffers most from a familiar's death, but to a lesser extent any familiar-capable class suffers. Summoner is definitely the way to go to have the ability to send combat pets into the fight for you. A Pack Lord Druid could also pull it off, though perhaps a bit differently and not as optimal.
