I'm working on a character for Duno's campaign. A fairy ninja. I was thinking she uses a shortbow for her primary weapon, since a melee weapon would be useless. Can a character flank using ranged attacks? According to sneak attack details, I can do a sneak attack with a ranged weapon as long as it's within 30 ft of the target. If I get close in with a shortbow, can I flank?

"Flanking When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by another enemy character or creature on its opposite border or opposite corner. When in doubt about whether two characters flank an opponent in the middle, trace an imaginary line between the two attackers' centers. If the line passes through opposite borders of the opponent's space (including corners of those borders), then the opponent is flanked. Exception: If a flanker takes up more than 1 square, it gets the flanking bonus if any square it occupies counts for flanking. Only a creature or character that threatens the defender can help an attacker get a flanking bonus. Creatures with a reach of 0 feet can't flank an opponent." taken from the core rules. paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/combat.html#flanking

What about a sneak attack with a ranged bow?

Ranged flanking is a different subject than ranged sneak attacks. First, Ranged Flanking. This is impossible. Ranged weapons do not threaten, and so cannot flank. Only melee weapons can flank. Second, Ranged Sneak Attack. This is possible, under very specific circumstances: - Target is unaware
- Surprise Round and the target has not acted
- The Sniping use of the Stealth skill
- Denied DEX bonus to AC
The only way to deny the DEX bonus to AC during a ranged attack is to have the target flanked by two other allies, which may give the target cover, or to use a spell or item that implicitly or explicitly puts such a condition on the target - Grease is a great example.

also, unless you have something else altering your sneak attack, you must be within 30 feet to make a ranged sneak attack.

Right, I mentioned that part in my first post. I think there's an archetype that lets the character set up their own sneak attacks but I have to research it more. The idea would be to always keep the enemy flat footed.
