Life for Victor(Vee-k-tore) began relatively similar to that of other mantisfolk. He was born in a egg sack that was stuck to the side of a tree limb along with his 100 brothers and sisters(Mantisfolk are only about 4mm tall when born). When they were big enough to break through the sack's walls, His siblings and him all flooded out into the big bad world. The light was initially blinding, but their eyes adjusted over time. About 1/2 of them fled the tree in search of greener pastures, although the truth is that most of them probably were eaten. The ones that remained in this tree they were born on began to feast. They began to eat the leaves and grow big, strong, and most importantly, fast. However, there was not enough food for all of them. Some simply died of starvation, but you could call those the lucky ones. Food was going fast. Not all of them could see the inevitable reality that would follow, but Victor did. So one by one, Victor began to poach off his brethren. Victor was smart though, he didn't do this in plain sight, he'd wait until he was alone on the other side of a leaf, or a branch from the rest of the group. Then SNAP! Quick as lightning he'd knock them to a certain death below, or kill them outright and then eat them. When it finally got to the point where all the food was gone, there were only 1 of his brothers, and 2 of his sisters remaining. Only the others had been feeding off the foliage, and had never actually fought before unlike Victor who had slain many. He made short work of them as they fought amongst themselves, leaving Victor as the last one standing. Victor, now big enough to fend for himself, shed his final skin in that tree and left to begin his life, but he never forgot why it was him leaving that tree and not filling his siblings' stomach.
Victor wasn't satisfied with his life as just another mantisfolk hunting prey in the woods. He wanted to be better. Stronger. Faster. He got word of a monastery nearby that promised self perfection if you adopted Irori as your deity and followed his teachings. So he went there. His master taught him the ways of the monk. He also taught Victor how to heal and bandage wounds. Victor wasn't as interested in this region of learning though; he just wanted to fight. His master preached balance, so Victor learned balance. His master preached respect, so Victor learned respect. His master preached precision, so Victor learned precision. After a few years went by Victor was a lean, mean fighting machine. He learned to be Fast. To be Strong. To be Wise. One day the monastery was attacked by a large horde of ant men. individually ant men aren't that much of a problem, but when they organize for a full-on assault, they are almost unstoppable. At first the monks were able to hold them off at the gates of the compound, but there were just too many. They started to burrow under the walls, which the monks were prepared for, but they weren't prepared for the sheer number of them. This was not an ordinary, rag-tag tribe of ant-men, but a large, well lead group of combatants. Eventually the monks were pushed back to the main temple building. Only 10 of the over 100 monks still stood, Victor among them. All of them bruised and bleeding. Even the master was eventually overrun by the horde. With the ant men banging on the doors, the walls, even the ceiling, all hope seemed lost. Then the unthinkable happened. A miracle. A flash of light blinded the monks from the center of the room. They readied themselves to fight the intruder, but were stunned to see that this wasn't an ant man trick, but a large man with red skin and cloven hooves. In one hand he held a fiery mace, and in the other a scroll of paper. At his arrival the pounding ceased. He informed the monks that he had temporarily frozen the ant man horde and offered the monks a deal. He would save their lives, and all they had to do was sign on the dotted line. A couple of the monks did so with no further thought, but Victor was skeptical of this man(if he even was a man). Victor read over the contract quickly and realized that this was no man or wizard, but a deity. Asmodeus himself. Victor saw that Asmodeus did indeed plan to save their lives, but at the cost of a chain around his ankle. He remembered back to his birth when he was 1/100, and how he was the lone survivor of the bunch. How he would do anything to survive, and how all he needed to do now to survive was pick up the pen he was being offered. He took it, and he signed. In the end only 6 of the 10 monks decided to take the deal. Asmodeus took the 6 of the monks who signed to some place far away from the monastery, and bid the saved monks to look into the nearby pool. In it they saw the temple they were in just moments before. In it stood the 4 monks that refused to sign. The ant men had broken into the building, and were coming upon them. Swarming them. They didn't stand a chance. The vision ceased, and Admodeus told us all "Your life now belongs to me. You've seen the fate I spared you, and if you break the contract you've signed. The fate you just escaped will seem like paradise. I will call upon you when I need you." Then he disappeared, leaving the monks to ponder what they just got themselves in to.
